THE Malacca elections on November 20 will be the barometer to determine the direction for PAS with Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the 15th general election (GE15), said its deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

Tuan Ibrahim said the result of the Malacca polls, which would witness three-corner fights among PN, Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH), would be important to decide the plan and future of PAS in the alliance.

“PAS will empower the strength of parties in PN as PAS is a component of the alliance.

“The results of the Malacca elections will be part of PAS’ future plan and I think many would want to see the Malacca elections as an indicator (for GE15 cooperation),” he said in a media conference after the party’s 67th Muktamar today.

In this regard, he said all PAS candidates contesting in the Malacca polls on November 20 will need to take a “baiah” (pledge of allegiance) as other PAS candidates did in past elections.

Tuan Ibrahim said this is to ensure the candidates do not betray the party after winning the elections on PAS support and ticket.

“PAS has been consistent in its stance against party-hopping, unlike PH, which was against it  but suddenly in Malacca they are accepting party hoppers,” he said and stressed that the party will continue cooperating with Umno under Muafakat Nasional (MN).
