India logs 12,428 new Covid cases, lowest in 238 days

INDIA’S Covid-19 tally rose to 34.2 million today, as 12,428 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours across the country, the Health Ministry’s latest data showed.

The number of new cases registered in a day is the lowest in 238 days, the ministry said in a statement.

As many as 356 deaths due to the pandemic since yesterday morning raised the toll of fatalities to 455,068, Xinhua reported.

Most deaths – 281 – were reported from the southern state of Kerala.

“More than 70% cases (deaths) are due to co-morbidities,” said the data released by the ministry.

There are still 163,816 active Covid-19 cases in the country with a decline of 3,879 active cases in the past 24 hours.

A total of 33.6 million have recovered and are discharged from hospitals so far, with 15,951 in the last 24 hours. – Bernama, October 26, 2021.
