A MALAYSIAN man was among the 16 more people who died from complications due to Covid-19 infection in Singapore yesterday.

The man was a work permit holder, according to the republic’s Ministry of Health (MOH) in its nightly data update.

Of the remaining 15 cases, the ministry said, 11 were male Singaporeans and permanent residents and four were female Singaporeans.

All the cases were aged between 61 and 93 years, said MOH.

It said eight had been unvaccinated against Covid-19, one had been partially vaccinated and seven had been vaccinated.

MOH said 15 of them had various underlying medical conditions while a vaccinated case had no known medical conditions. With the new cases, the republic has recorded 280 deaths so far.

Singapore also reported 3,439 new Covid-19 infections yesterday, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 162,026.

Of the new cases, 2,937 were detected in the community, 500 in the migrant worker dormitories and two imported cases.

As of October 20, 84% of the population have completed their full regimen or received two doses of Covid-19 vaccines and 85% have received at least one dose.

In its last update, the republic’s multi-ministerial taskforce said the stabilisation phase will be extended for another month through November 21 as more time is needed to stabilise the continuing pressures on its healthcare system. – Bernama, October 22, 2021.
