Health ministry reports 76 new Covid-19 deaths

MALAYSIA logged 76 Covid-19 deaths as of midnight, the Health Ministry reported.

Data from the ministry’s Git.hub raw data repository showed the deaths were backlog cases, meaning no deaths occurred yesterday.

Of the total, 14 were classified dead on arrival.

The daily death figure is the sum total of the number of reported deaths on the day plus cases just confirmed by the health authorities to be due to Covid-19 after investigation.

With the new fatalities, the Covid-19 death toll in Malaysia stood at 28,138.

Sarawak recorded the most deaths with 12 fatalities, followed by Johor (11) and Sabah (10).

Other states and territories that logged deaths linked to the virus were: Kedah (9), Kelantan (3), Malacca (2), Pahang (4), Perak (5), Penang (8), Selangor (6), Terengganu (4), and one each in Negri Sembilan and Perlis.

Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya did not report any deaths.

Malaysia’s active cases continued to drop, to 81,955.

Of these, 666 patients were receiving treatment in intensive care units, with 329 requiring respiratory support.

Meanwhile, 62,857 patients were in home quarantine; 11,966 in low-risk quarantine centres; and 6,466 were hospitalised.

Total recoveries number 2.29 million, 9,401 of which were reported yesterday. – October 21, 2021.
