FULLY vaccinated individuals under isolation can be released on Monday if they test negative for Covid-19 today, said Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, in keeping with new rules on a shorter quarantine period.

The government had yesterday announced that the mandatory quarantine period will be reduced to seven days from 10 days starting Monday. This applies to fully vaccinated travellers entering Malaysia and close contacts of coronavirus cases.

Khairy took to Twitter to explain the matter, saying that returning travellers who are fully vaccinated and currently in quarantine for five days will be released on Monday if their PCR test returns negative today.

“As for those who are not vaccinated or have yet to complete their doses and have been quarantined for more than eight days, they can also take the test today.

“If the results are negative, they will be given a release order on October 18.”

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob had yesterday announced that effective Monday, the mandatory quarantine period will be reduced to seven days for fully vaccinated individuals entering the country and close contacts of Covid-19 cases.

The 10-day quarantine period will still be required for travellers and close contacts who are not vaccinated or partially vaccinated.

Ismail Sabri announced the quarantine rule revision along with the transition of more states into Phases 3 and 4 of the National Recovery Plan. On Monday, no state will be in Phases 1 and 2, as the country transitions into Covid-19 endemicity.
