POLICE have seized the official car of former Malacca executive councillor Norhizam Hassan Baktee following his refusal to return the state government’s assets.

Malacca police chief Abdul Majid Mohd Ali said yesterday’s seizure came following a police report lodged by the Malacca state secretary’s office on Monday against the Pengkalan Batu assemblyman.

He said initial investigations showed that the state government had issued an order on October 5 to the exco to return all state government assets he was entitled to as a member of the Malacca administration.

“Police have opened an investigation under Section 403 of the Penal Code for dishonest misappropriation of property.

“Police have also seized car keys, a fuel card, and a Touch ’N Go card from a man who is identified as Norhizam’s official driver,” he said in a statement today.

Norhizam was one of the four Malacca assemblymen who retracted their support for Chief Minister Sulaiman Md Ali on October 4, causing the collapse of the state government.

Majid said that on October 12 police had requested the Ayer Keroh Magistrates’ Court for a search warrant, so that the procedure of confiscating the car would not be disputed.

“Police then found the locked car on the third floor of a condominium. We then contacted the exco to return the car keys.

“He didn’t show up and instead sent his driver to return the keys.”

Majid added that the police will be calling in more witnesses, including the exco who had refused to return the car, for questioning. – October 13, 2021.
