THE three Malacca executive councillors who recently resigned must return all government assets, including official cars, as specified in the regulations, said state Chief Minister Sulaiman Md Ali.

Idris Haron, Noor Effandi Ahmad and Norhizam Hassan Baktee are no longer executive councillors after resigning from their posts last Monday, he added.

“They have informed me of their resignation. I have received their official letters, and so has the Yang Di-pertua Negeri Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam.

“Therefore, they are no longer state executive councillors, and all assets must be returned to the state secretary according to set procedures.”

He was asked to comment on Norhizam’s alleged refusal to return government assets despite resigning from the post earlier this week.

On the status of the state Constituency Development and Coordination Committee offices, Sulaiman said all 28 assemblymen are required to hand over offices, but not immediately.

“All the assemblymen have a week to do so, and they need to take only their personal belongings. If a week is not enough, it is up to the discretion of the district officer.”

He said this is not new, as the same directive was issued by Pakatan Harapan when the Barisan Nasional-led state government collapsed, and the same has to be done this time, too.

State secretary Kamel Mohamad said Idris has returned the government assets last Thursday, while Noor Effandi has requested for a postponement until next Monday. – Bernama, October 9, 2021.
