Voting not like choosing between 'Coke and Pepsi', says Dr Mahathir

DR Mahathir is surprised that there are people who equate voting in the coming general election as nothing more than a choice between “Coke and Pepsi”

To drive home his point on voting, Dr Mahathir drew an analogy which compared the national car Proton and Rolls Royce.

“Is our ability to think and compare that stunted? If asked between Proton and Rolls Royce what will you choose.

“What’s the difference between the two anyway, they are both motor vehicles,” he posted in his blog this evening.

He said a decision could be made not to buy either one of the vehicles and instead travel on foot.

“It is better to travel on foot. But when you are crossing the road, you are hit by a Rolls Royce. You wouldn’t know because you are dead but the Rolls Royce was driven by a car thief,” he said

“This is a fiction. But the story is similar to choosing between Coke and Pepsi.”

The Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman then went on in his blog post to say that whether readers could understand his reference, it would depend on their capability.

“If their capability is low, then they will misinterpret what I said about pork,” he said.

Dr Mahathir had in a blog posting yesterday questioned whether pork will be illegal in the eyes of Islam if the pig is slaughtered in the name of God.

“Whether a race is developed or not depends on how the race thinks. In the Quran there are many verses that challenge the thinking of men. However, many still do not believe and do not understand after receiving God’s word.

“This tribe that does not know how to think is an ignorant tribe. If you are in it, it is impossible for you to differentiate between those who are contesting and developing.

“It is none the wiser that we will not vote in the 14th general election when we can’t even choose between Pepsi or Coca Cola, what more of Barisan Nasional and PH,” he wrote.

“That is why, don’t choose. We will be safe. Really? Ask yourselves,” he said. – January 24, 2018.

  • The fundamental system of govt is broken. We have Rule by Power. Founding principle of the country is under threat. It's simple not enough to say what you want. Like #meetoo movement You have to stand up for what you will not tolerate.
