19,495 new Covid-19 cases, health DG says

AFTER showing a downward trend in daily Covid-19 cases for four consecutive days, infections in the past 24 hours have spiked up to 19,495 cases, Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

Yesterday, Malaysia recorded 15,669 cases.

Noor Hisham said the country’s national caseload now stands at 2,030,935.

Sarawak recorded the highest number of cases with 4,709, followed by Selangor (2,710) and Sabah (2,015).

Johor recorded 1,860, Penang (1,757), Kelantan (1,434), Kedah (1,178), Perak (1,174), Terengganu (993), Pahang (766), Kuala Lumpur (363), Negri Sembilan (222), Malacca (190), Perlis (108) and Putrajaya (16).

Labuan is the only state that recorded zero cases.

Malaysia has fully vaccinated 75.4% of its adult population under the national Covid-19 immunisation programme, the Health Ministry said on the CovidNow website earlier today.

That is equivalent to 17.65 million people, it is stated on the site.

It said 92.5% of adults have received one jab and 7.5% are unvaccinated.

It reported that 243,971 people received a shot yesterday, 71,658 of which were first doses and 172,313, second doses. – September 15, 2021.
