Health Ministry reports 463 new Covid-19 deaths

THE Ministry Health reported 463 new Covid-19 deaths as of midnight last night, taking the nationwide toll to 21,587.

According to data provided by the ministry, only three of the victims actually succumbed to the disease yesterday. The remaining 460 deaths were backlog cases that had been previously unreported.

Data on the coronavirus deaths is now available daily on the government website at CovidNow. 

It shows three indicators for Covid-19 deaths: total daily reported deaths including backlog cases, deaths that actually took place on the day and deaths on a seven-day average.

Selangor accounted for 255 of the 463 deaths, followed by Kedah (54) and Johor (38).

Other states reporting deaths were Perak (24), Penang (23), Kuantan (19), Sabah (16), Kuala Lumpur (12) Sarawak (seven), Pahang (six), Malacca (four), Terengganu (three) and Negri Sembilan (two). 

No deaths were reported in Perlis, Labuan or Putrajaya.

Meanwhile, the data also showed that 108 of the 463 fatalities were pronounced dead-on-arrival.

Based on the seven-day average provided by CovidNow, the national count is 104 deaths a day. 

Yesterday, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that the Covid-19 cases continued to drop with Malaysia recording 15,669 new infections in the past 24 hours. – September 15, 2021.
