PRIVATE hospitals in Penang have made more beds available for Covid-19 patients as infections surge.

The increase in beds is the result of talks between Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and state authorities, the Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia (APHM) said today.

APHM president Dr Kuljit Singh said that the enhanced public-private partnership would help patients get immediate treatment.

“Patients willing to self-fund for Covid-19 treatment at private hospitals in Penang will now have 165 normal beds and 22 ICU (beds) available in total amongst eight private hospitals on the island and mainland,” Kuljit said.
