Parliament sits today


THE first meeting of the fourth term of the 14th Parliament will be opened today by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

It is the first parliamentary session nder the government led by Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

According to the order of the meeting on the Parliament website, today’s sitting of the Dewan Rakyat will focus on the speech by Al-Sultan Abdullah.

The House will sit for 17 days until October 12.

The Dewan Negara sitting will also open today and will take place from October 4 to 26.
 
To reduce the risk of Covid-19 infection in the Parliament building, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun said ultraviolet air filters have been installed in the main hall of Parliament and nanotechnology is employed in the office to kill bacteria and viruses.

The Health Ministry also carried out RT-PCR tests on 1,801 workers in the building and MPs on September 10 and 11.

Yesterday, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said a senator and 25 parliamentary staff workers tested found positive for Covid-19. – Bernama, September 13, 2021.
