Sabah mandates Covid jabs for public transport workers, passengers

PUBLIC transport drivers, workers and passengers in Sabah must be fully vaccinated effective September 16, the state government announced yesterday.

Sabah Local Government and Housing Minister Masidi Manjun said personnel in public transport such as stage buses and school buses, taxi and e-hailing must be fully vaccinated effective September 16.

“All passengers must also be fully vaccinated and have a low Covid-19 risk status on the MySejahtera application.

“Stage and school buses are allowed to run at half-full capacity while taxis and e-hailing vehicles are allowed a maximum of two passengers, including the driver.

“All public transport services may operate in the same district from 5am to 10pm with physical distancing and masking in the vehicles,” he said in a statement yesterday night.

He said driving schools were allowed to operate by appointment and driving tests are allowed from September 17.

“All workers, teaching manpower and test candidates must be fully vaccinated while the handling companies are only allowed to at 80% capacity,” he said.

Masidi said those who were fully vaccinated were allowed to take part in water recreational activities such as swimming, kayaking, scuba diving, snorkelling, sea walking, jet skiing and others on the condition they observed physical distancing.

He said broadcasting via recordings or direct telecasts in the form of information delivery and entertainment were allowed in the presence of fully vaccinated audience with the audience capacity at 30% of the studio space of agencies and broadcasting companies only.

He said filming was allowed inside and outside the studio, busking was allowed indoors and outdoors, and performances were permitted in hotel lounges if all the participants were fully vaccinated.

“As of September 9, a total of 49.5% of the adult population in Sabah have completed their Covid-19 vaccination and 65.8% have received one dose of the vaccine,” he said.

Masidi said Sabah yesterday recorded 2,246 Covid-19 cases bringing the total to 169,983, adding that 3,059 cases were reported as recovered. – Bernama, September 11, 2021.
