278 new Covid-19 fatalities, 1,007 in ICU


Malaysia logs 278 new Covid-19 deaths today, raising the nationwide death toll to 16,972. A total of 1,007 Covid-19 patients are currently hospitalised in intensive care unit wards. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, September 1, 2021.

MALAYSIA reported 278 new Covid-19 fatalities in the past 24 hours, taking the overall Covid-19 death toll to 16,942.

Of the total deaths, 65 were dead-on-arrival cases.
 
The Health Ministry also said 1,007 patients are currently seeking treatment in intensive care unit wards, with 464 needing breathing assistance.
 
The country also logged 21,073 recoveries, against 18,762 new infections that were recorded today.
 
Active cases currently stand at 265,274, and the nationwide caseload is at 1,765,016.

42 new clusters were also reported today, of which 22 are workplaces clusters, 17 are community clusters, one cluster was detected from a detention centre, one from an education institution, and another from a religious event.

For the first time since the start of the pandemic, Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 statisics were released in a statement by new Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, instead of the director-general of health, Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. – September 1, 2021.
