Parliament postponed to September 13, confidence vote not on agenda

PARLIAMENT, which was to convene on September 6, will sit instead a week later on September 13.

A statement from Dewan Rakyat secretary Dr Nizam Mydin Bacha Mydin informed lawmakers of the change of date.

“In accordance with 11(2) of the Standing Orders of the Dewan Rakyat, the first meeting of the fourth session of the 14th Malaysian Parliament will now be held from September 13 to October 12,” the statement read.

The five-week session will start with the royal address on the first day. The 12th Malaysia Plan is slated to be tabled on September 27.

Missing from the agenda is a confidence motion for newly minted Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

On August 18, prior to the appointment of Ismail, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong said the new prime minister must undergo a confidence vote in the Dewan Rakyat to show he has majority support. – August 31, 2021.
