UMNO yesterday called for a royal commission of inquiry to investigate the revelations of former attorney-general Tommy Thomas of political interference in judicial and security matters.

The call was among several matters agreed upon at a Supreme Council meeting attended by Umno leaders, including Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Thomas had made the claims in his book, My Story: Justice in the Wilderness, published earlier this year.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the party also called on the government to call itself the “Malaysian government” and no longer the “Perikatan Nasional government”.

“This is because this government is a loose political cooperation among Barisan Nasional (Umno, MCA, MIC and PBRS), Perikatan Nasional (Bersatu, PAS and STAR), GPS and PBS,” Zahid said in a statement issued after the meeting yesterday that ended past midnight. – Bernama, August 28, 2021.
