A 93-year-old can’t take the country forward, says Najib

MALAYSIA would never achieve developed nation status if it was led by a 93-year-old leader, Prime Minister Najib Razak said today.

Najib did not name the 93-year-old leader he felt was unsuited to lead the country, but he was evidently referring to former Umno stalwart turned Pakatan Harapan leader Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The prime minister said the country could only reach fully developed status in 32 years if Barisan Nasional were in charge, and through the ruling coalition’s National Transformation programme (TN50).

“Trust us, only the current leadership can this lead this nation to a brighter future, one that we will achieve through TN50. We will be among the top 20 nations in the world.

“This is our vision. If you are 93 years old, can you take this country forward?” Najib said at the launch of Sahabat Puteri BN in Kuala Lumpur today.

“If our aspiration is to be among the top 20 nations in the world, how can we rely on a 93-year-old to carry this through?”

The prime minister said the opposition, meanwhile, was an “untested coalition” that was constantly bickering among themselves and could not be relied on.

He said there should be a national “political consciousness” that BN was the only viable coalition government that truly served the people.

About 3,000 members of the women youth wings of 13 BN components and representatives of BN-friendly organisations, or “friends of BN”. such as Pekema, were present.

Today marks the launch of Azalea, BN’s new women youth wing.

Najib earlier said the women youth wings of BN should no longer move in separate “kelompok” (clusters) but be united as a team.

“Struggle on with the full confidence that it is only us that can fight for our future and fulfil the needs of the people. We have our excellent record of accomplishments.”

In Sabah yesterday, Najib compared himself with Dr Mahathir, with Najib coming out the better prime minister for the state.

“Not even (Dr Mahathir) in his 22 years as prime minister approved as much development for Sabah as I have since I become the prime minister,” he had said. – January 2, 2018.

  • A highly corrupted prime minister like Najib will only move the country backwards, just like what happened in the Philippines, Zimbabwe and elsewhere.

  • Then you should feel ashamed because we rather have a 93 years old than a 64 years old. Just FYI, age doesn't matter, but quality does.

  • It's not Dr M who will take us forward. Not that he can't because he is 93 years old. It's PH collectively who will do that for us. And they are young and fresh. You and BN are history come GE14 because your party is old and run out of ideas to move forward. Not to mention full of scandals and what not.

  • History have taught us that poor leadership will result in disaster & irreparable damage to a nation (organization). We worked with a "Quek" psychopath that has this penchant & talent for bullying, lying, name calling and sexual assault on female staffs/agents. Within 4 years - the company incurred massive losses, low agency morale, declining sales and thousands of agents jumped ship to join competitors. • I hope all the atuks and neneks out there are reading this whether you are in the city or in the villages. This is the true face of Najib. He thinks old people cannot contribute. He thinks they are there just waiting to transpire. Dear PM, I can tell you, it's the moral compass and clarity of mission that allows anyone to drive a country forward. When you're missing one, no matter how virile you are, you're useless to the nation. When an old man can regain his moral compass, and he's always had that clarity of mission, why should we stop him from trying since you've put DSAI in a cell? He is pre-eminently qualified to fix the problems that you, your wife and your cronies have caused. In another words, we'd rather have an old grand man rather than a virile man to lead us.
