THE flurry of movement from Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s residence and the Umno headquarters Kuala Lumpur last night have shifted to Putrajaya and the Istana Negara this morning, following Umno’s claim that it has the numbers to cause the collapse of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

A vehicle ferrying Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani was seen entering the Perdana Putra building in Putrajaya, where the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is, at 9.25am.

According to Bernama, Bukit Aman Special Branch chief Zamri Yahya is also at the PMO.

Arriving later at around 10am were Armed Forces Chief Affendi Buang and also Chief Secretary to the Government Mohd Zuki Ali.

The Star reports that Attorney-General Idrus Harun is to seek an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is also expected to have an audience with the king shortly, at 11am, and will chair the weekly cabinet meeting at noon.

Umno yesterday said it had “enough” MPs who have pulled support from Muhyiddin and the PN government to cause it to collapse. Party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the MPs have signed statutory declarations which have been presented to the king.

He did not state the exact number of MPs who did so, but it was clear from those present with him at his press conference yesterday that at least 11 Umno lawmakers are involved.

Another Umno lawmaker, Lenggong MP Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, yesterday resigned as Energy and Natural Resources Minister.

Umno has 38 MPs, of which 16 (after Shamsul Anuar’s resignation) are in Muhyiddin’s cabinet.

There are 220 MPs in the Dewan Rakyat and Muhyiddin is said to command the majority of 115, but this has yet to be tested with a vote of confidence.
