PAS will hold an emergency meeting following Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s loss of support, according to a news report.

Speaking to Free Malaysia Today, deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the meeting is called after Umno’s decision to withdraw support for the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government and Muhyiddin.

“We will have a meeting immediately,” said the environment and water minister, who had pledged his support for Muhyiddin as prime minister two weeks earlier.

PAS, which has 18 MPs, is one of the founding members of the PN coalition.

Earlier today, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Umno has presented evidence to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to show who among its MPs have withdrawn support for Muhyiddin.

Flanked by 10 Umno MPs, Zahid said the Bersatu president and Pagoh MP has now lost legitimacy as prime minister and should resign immediately.

The 10 MPs are Najib Razak (Pekan), Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (Gua Musang), Ahmad Maslan (Pontian), Azalina Othman Said (Pengerang), Noh Omar (Tanjong Karang), Mohd Nizar Zakaria (Parit), Azeez Abdul Rahim (Baling), Ahmad Nazlan Idris (Jerantut), Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub (Machang) and Ramli Mohd Nor (Cameron Highlands).

Although Muhyiddin is believed to have the support of 115 of 220 MPs, this has never been tested.

But the pullout by 11 Umno MPs would leave the 74-year-old embattled prime minister with only 104 votes.

Earlier today, Lenggong MP and Umno Supreme Council member Shamsul Anuar Nasarah resigned as energy and natural resources minister. – August 3, 2021.
