Hadi accuses Dr Mahathir of being a 'sellout'

Pakatan Harapan has named its chairman, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, as the opposition’s prime minister designate, a move which has enraged Islamist party, PAS. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, January 18, 2018.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has ratcheted up a feud with Dr Mahathir Mohamad, accusing the former prime minister of introducing the teaching and learning of science and mathematics in English policy and Vision 2020.

Hadi used religion to justify the attacks, saying Islam does not force its followers to change race, skin colour or language.

“Unfortunately, we have leaders among us who once wanted to make English a compulsory language in the education system, supposedly for the development of the country.

“Furthermore, (he wanted to) introduce a foreign workforce of teachers and allocated funds that should have gone to do things that would have been more beneficial for the country and the people,” Hadi said in a statement today.

Hadi, the Marang MP, issued a statement on “Jati diri umat Islam bersama bahasanya” (The Identity of Muslims is with their language).

The teaching of science and maths in English policy (PPSMI) was introduced by Dr Mahathir towards the end of his administration in 2003 and abolished in 2012 by Prime Minister Najib Razak.

Hadi also said Vision 2020 is no longer achievable and development is stunted. The target, set by Dr Mahathir during the sixth Malaysia Plan in 1991, is for the country to achieve developed status by 2020.

“There is only two years left to 2020, but our development is akin to bred fish, not like fish that’s free to roam.

“However, Allah always leave His door to repentance as wide as from the East to the West or as long as person lives, from puberty until there’s still life left in the throat.

“Don’t blame others, blame yourself,” he said.

Last July, Dr Mahathir was made chairman of Pakatan Harapan, an opposition coalition comprising PKR, Bersatu, DAP and Amanah.

PAS, which left Pakatan Rakyat two years ago, formed Gagasan Sejahtera with Parti Ikatan, led by Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir.

Earlier this week, Dr Mahathir challenged PAS to name its prime minister candidate.

“We want to know who is their prime minister candidate.

“Is it (Barisan Nasional chairman) Najib (Razak) or me? We want to know.

“If people like their candidate, they may win,” Dr Mahathir said.

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, however, said the Islamist party need not name its prime minister candidate.

PH also named PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as deputy prime minister, should the coalition win the election that must be held by August. – January 18, 2018.

  • Oh Hadi for Pete's sake grow up. Tun M has been out of office for more than 10 years now, how do you blame him for not realising W2020? And again, this is disingenious way of how Islamic extremists influence others to Islamic teachings. Malay is our national language. it will always be taught in schools. What's wrong to learn English and for that matter Mandarin, when on the ground, practical people are already doing so? Do you think there is any shame when someone in US learns to speak and write fluent Mandarin, or when a Japanese speaks French or Spanish fluently? No one gives a hoot about mastery of another language as long as it is useful. So what is so wrong to want to "hoist" English training on our young? It is a language of diplomacy, a language of science and most definitely a language of business. Besides, what exactly is a Muslim's language? In the Middle East, it is Arabic. Are you telling us that your political objective is to turn our national language to Arabic and displace Malay language? What idiocy.

  • The Identity of Muslims is with their language. Yes since when is bahasa malaysia a Muslim language. There is a difference between language and religion. The characters and alphabets used in BM today is not Jawi
The reason why wawasan was not achieved is the rail roading of the education system by Malay langauge fundamentalist and a government positive affirmation policy which did not provide for the best teachers and academics to be retained by institution of higher learning.also the continued access to higher education.
i remember the issue of Merdeka University and wonder the subsequent proliferation of private universities.https://caselaws.wordpress.com/2011/10/29/merdeka-university-v-government-1982-2-mlj-243/

  • A manipulative politician that twist religion for his personal gain. This cunning snake is promoting division & hatred among Malaysian. Stand-up and fight garbage politic. We had a company officer that deploy this divide & rule strategy. Agency leaders that sucks his nuts are rewarded while those who disagree with him are marginalized & bullied. The agency is extremely divided - many agency leaders turned into an traitorous dog and report on other agency leaders. Read dog eat dog management at changenow083.blogspot.com
