SELAYANG Hospital in Selangor has been converted into a full Covid-19 hospital effective yesterday.

This comes after the previous two hospitals dedicated to Covid-19 patients in the state – Sungai Buloh Hospital and Ampang Hospital – reached capacity.

The decision to convert the hospital from a hybrid to a full Covid-19 hospital was made by the Greater Klang Valley special task force.

“This decision was made in line with the increasing number of Covid-19 patients from category 3 and above in the state of Selangor. Both full Covid-19 hospitals have reached capacity and other hybrid hospitals have also reached maximum capacity,” Selangor Health Department (JKNS) deputy director Dr Faizal Mat Arifin said in a statement.

The change was also confirmed by Health Minister Dr Adham Baba in a brief message to The Malaysian Insight.

Faizal also said non-Covid-19 patients would be referred to other hospitals in the state. However, subspecialty services not offered in other hospitals will be retained.

He added the mapping-out of these services was important and must be done immediately so that existing clinical services were not affected. – July 22, 2021.
