11,985 new Covid-19 infections as Malaysia inches closer to 1 million cumulative cases

THE country reported 11,985 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking the nation’s total number of cases to almost 50,000 short of the 1 million mark, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

As Malaysia today reported more than 10,000 cases for the ninth consecutive day, the cumulative total now stands at 951,884 cases.

The health director-general said that Selangor once again topped the daily case tally by state with 5,550 fresh cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 1,174 cases and Kedah emerging in the top three with 800 cases. 

This would be the 90th straight day or three months that Selangor had reported the most number of cases by state, bringing its cumulative to 337,897 infections. 

Other states to report new cases in descending order are Negri Sembilan with 745 cases, Johor (644), Pahang (603), Sabah (474), Malacca (453), Kelantan (386), Penang (362), Perak (274), Sarawak (261) and Terengganu (171). 

The three states that reported fewer than 100 new Covid-19 cases are Putrajaya with 51 cases, Labuan with 35 cases and Perlis with only two cases.

Meanwhile, the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV) said that Malaysia had overall dispensed more than 15 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, after it administered 299,593 shots yesterday. 

With the latest figures, 10.30 million people or 31.9% of the country’s adult population has now received their first dose of the vaccine while the remaining 4.76 million individuals or 14.6% of the population has been fully vaccinated. – July 21, 2021.
