MALAYSIA has now delivered more than 15 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme after it administered 299,593 shots yesterday, the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply said today.

A total of 204,064 individuals got their first dose, while the remaining 95,529 completed both jabs.

The daily vaccination numbers remained above the 400,000 mark from July 12 to 16, even reaching a record high of 460,158 on July 15, before dipping to 380,440 on Saturday and 344,961 on Sunday.

The numbers peaked at 424,936 on Monday, before it took a decline yesterday, which could be a result of the Hari Raya Aidiladha public holiday.

The last time Malaysia administered vaccines in the region of 200,000 was on July 11, where 291,217 shots were delivered.

With the latest figures, 10.30 million or 31.9% of the total population have now received their first dose of vaccine while the remaining 4.76 million or 14.6% of the population have been fully vaccinated.

The Klang Valley – which includes Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya – continued to log highest jabs administered with a total of 5.47 million doses given to date.

A total of 4.14 million or 49.2% received their first shot and 1.32 million or 15.8% were fully inoculated.

Meanwhile, Labuan remains the state with the highest vaccination rate, with 60.1% of the total population having received their first dose and 44.5% completing both doses.

Putrajaya is looking to vaccinate all senior citizens in the Klang Valley with at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine in the next few weeks.

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had said all adults in Malaysia will be vaccinated by October, a new immunisation target set by the government to stem the recent surge in Covid-19 cases.

He said the fast-track approach in the national immunisation programme includes boosting the capacity for vaccinations to 500,000 doses per day, to tackle the emergence of new and more vicious variants of the virus. – July 21, 2021.
