JUST how long does the Registrar of Societies (RoS) intend to drag its feet over the registration of Pakatan Harapan, Dr Mahathir Mohamad asked today.

“We haven’t got a reply. We need to campaign.

“We have followed all the rules. We don’t know what the problem is with our application,” the PH chairman said after the opposition coalition’s central committee meeting in Petaling Jaya today.

He said RoS has remained mum since PH submitted its application for registration on July 24 last year.

“They don’t answer our queries. They don’t even acknowledge when we send a reminder (to enquire the status of our application),” said Dr Mahathir.

RoS director-general Surayati Ibrahim was reported to have said in November that PH’s registration was pending due to issues with Bersatu and DAP, two parties in the opposition coalition. The other two are Amanah and PKR.

Surayati said Bersatu had yet to hold an annual general meeting and DAP yet to submit a full report on the re-election of its central committee members.

When pressed, Dr Mahathir declined to reveal PH’s backup plan in the event the coalition failed to obtain legal status before the 14th general election (GE14) due to be held by August.

Meanwhile, the Bersatu chairman dismissed social media research firm Politweet’s prediction that the young party would win only three to six seats in the elections.

“This man should open a consultancy on how to predict the future. He knows how to predict what will happen to people ,” he said.

In its forecast for GE14 released today, Politweet predicted PH could win 76 to 127 seats out of the 165 seats it contested in Peninsular Malaysia.

The social media pollster predicted PH could win up to 127 seats if it managed to gain 5% more support than in 2013. – January 16, 2018.
