MALAYSIA has reported more than 9,000 Covid-19 cases for the third straight day, with the country logging 9,105 new infections as of noon today, said director-general of health, Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The Klang Valley accounted for the bulk of the cases at 5,929 infections, or 65% of the caseload.

Selangor has reported the highest number of cases to date, at 4,682 infections. Previously on July 9, the state recorded 4,400 cases.

This was followed by Kuala Lumpur with 1,247, and Negeri Sembilan with 541 cases.

Overall, Selangor is the state with the highest number of infections at 286,352 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 88,958 cases, and Johor with 74,828 cases.

Yesterday, Malaysia reported a record number of cases with 9,353 infections, while 9,180 cases were recorded the day before.

In the past three days alone, Malaysia has had a total of 27,638 cases. The overall national caseload is now at 836,296.

The authorities said that they have ramped up testing in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, which could also be the reason for the drastic hike in cases.

Earlier, Health Minister Adham Baba said that the country is progressing well with its vaccination drive.

He said that Malaysia has vaccinated more than 300,00 people for the sixth straight day.

As of yesterday, a total of 11.07 million shots have been delivered. 7.64 million people (23.4% of the population) have received their first jab, while 3.42 million (10.5% of the population) have received their second dose. – July 11, 2021.
