IN just 24 hours, Malaysia has logged a record of 9,353 Covid-19 cases.
Malaysia has reported 9,353 infections as of noon today, breaching the previous record of 9,180 cases in just 24 hours, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
Malaysia has now reported more than 9,000 cases for two consecutive days.
The authorities have also ramped up testing in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, which also accounted for a drastic hike in cases.
The director-general of heath said that of the new cases, Selangor continues to top daily statistics with 4,277 cases today.
This would be the 79th straight day that the state leads the daily case count.
Coming second with the highest number of infections is Kuala Lumpur with 1,398 cases, while a spike in cases in Malacca saw it taking third place with 835 cases.
Malaysia’s cumulative caseload now stands at 827,191.
Selangor has logged 34% or 281,670 of those cases since the onset of the pandemic, while Kuala Lumpur has registered 87,711 cases, followed by Johor with 74,436 cases.
However, the country has recorded 254,834 or 31% of its cases since the nationwide lockdown on June 1.
Previously, Health Minister Dr Adham Baba said that Malaysia was on track to achieving its herd immunity target, of inoculating 10% of the population by mid-month, as Covid-19 vaccinations yesterday exceeded 300,000 for the fifth day running.
A total 10.75 million doses have been administered so far under the national immunisation plan, with 7.43 million people, or 22.8% of the population having had their first shot and 3.31 million, or 10.2% of the population, the full course of two doses. – July 10, 2021.
