FRESH Covid-19 cases in Malaysia shot up to 6,437 in the past 24 hours, taking the cumulative cases in the country to 745,703, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The last time Malaysia reported more than 6,000 daily cases was on June 18, when the country logged 6,440 cases.
Noor Hisham said more than half of the new infections today were reported in the Klang Valley, which accounted for a total of 3,692 cases.
Selangor once again was the biggest contributor by state with 2,299 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 1,361 cases and Negri Sembilan with 700 cases.
This is the first time since the start of the pandemic that Kuala Lumpur recorded 1,361 cases. Its previous high was 884 on June 11
Perlis was the only state not to report any new cases as of noon today.
On overall cases, Selangor tops the chart with 245,915 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 77,053 cases and Johor with 70,053 cases.
Meanwhile, the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply said the total number of vaccines administered as of June 28 is 7.59 million.
Of this figure, 2.13 million people or 6.5% of the population have received both doses while 5.46 million or 16.7% of the population have received their first dose. – June 29, 2021.
