NAJIB Razak today asked if the lockdown, which is to end on June 28, will be extended, pointing out that the first movement control order (MCO) last year had lasted 45 days.

“Now 45 days have passed since the current lockdown (MCO 3.0) was announced on May 10, but 21 more new clusters were still detected yesterday,” he said on Facebook today.

Despite the high number of clusters, Malaysia yesterday reported a drop in daily infections to 4,743 cases.

Najib also questioned if the people had received government assistance.

“Automatic moratorium? Electricity discount? Sufficient additional aid (under Bantuan Prihatin)? i-Sinar/i-Lestari 2.0?

“Maybe traders and people who have been locked up for 45 days do not need help?”

Najib said efforts to contain the outbreak should not be “half-baked”.

“If we want to do something to overcome the crisis, we do it right. Not half-baked.

“The goal must be achieved as soon as possible and the crisis should not be dragged on. There must be results.”

Najib said everyone must make the necessary sacrifices for the common good.

“Some can get away (without sacrificing) but the majority have to suffer,” he said, without saying who.

Najib said reasonable and realistic assistance should be promptly given to the most affected so that they are able to live through this difficult period.

“(The government) needs to be sensitive and concerned about the plight of the people. Is this difficult to understand? I have mentioned this dozens of times since January.”
