4,611 new Covid-19 cases, lowest since mid-May

Malaysia’s Covid-19 caseload breached the 700,000 mark today, with 4,611 new cases recorded. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Irwan Majid, June 21, 2021.

MALAYSIA reported 4,611 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking the national caseload to 701,019, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. 

Today’s figure is the lowest since mid-May, where 4,446 cases were reported on May 17.  

For the 60th straight day, Noor Hisham said Selangor topped the daily case chart, reporting 1,346 cases. 

He said Sarawak was second on the list with 682 new cases and Perak moved into the top three with 453 new infections. 

He said Kuala Lumpur logged 310 fresh cases, taking Klang Valley’s total for today to 1,674.  

All states except Perlis reported new cases today.  

In overall cases, Selangor leads with 229,481 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 71,478 and Johor with 68,307.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s inoculation efforts fell short of the 200,000 daily target for the third straight day yesterday, with only 140,573 doses administered. 

Of this 116,514 were first doses, and 24,059 were second doses. 

Cumulatively, 5.81 million shots have been given to date, since the national immunisation programme began on February 24. – June 21, 2021.
