THE Kelantan government will ensure that the Covid-19 vaccination exercise in the state is completed before the monsoon season begins at the end of October in order to achieve the state’s herd immunity target.

Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob said that to achieve the targeted vaccinations this month, the authorities would prioritise residents in flood prone areas, among them areas in the Tumpat parliamentary constituency.

“When floods occur, we fear that it could affect the vaccination process, with residents busy moving into temporary relief centres,” he told reporters after visiting Kampung Kutan Tengah at Pasir Pekan, which is under the enhanced movement-control order, near Tumpat today.

In a related development, he said Kelantan will receive an additional 550,000 vaccine doses next month.

“We will also carry out a vaccine outreach programme in collaboration with the Tumpat parliamentary constituency office and the state legislative assembly service centre to prioritise vaccination for residents here in early July,” he added. – Bernama, June 20, 2021.
