921 Covid-19 patients in ICU, active cases begin to decline

MALAYSIA reported 921 Covid-19 cases in the intensive care units (ICU) today, breaking the previous record of 917 cases yesterday.

With this, Malaysia has continued to log daily record ICU cases since May 5, making this the 41st straight day with a new single day high.

Besides this, the number of those requiring respiratory support also increased from 452 yesterday to 459, while the record figure for this stands at 462, reported on June 10, said Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Noor Hisham said 60 deaths were reported today, taking the toll to 3,968, just 32 shy of the 4,000 mark.

On a positive note, active cases in the country continued to decline as Malaysia recorded 6,588 recoveries against 4,949 new cases.

Active cases are now at 71,625.

Noor Hisham said Selangor reported 18 deaths, the most by state, followed by nine in Johor, and eight in Kuala Lumpur.

Other states reporting deaths were Negri Sembilan (seven), Sarawak (six), Labuan (four), Penang and Kelantan (two each), and Sabah, Terengganu, Perak and Malacca (one each).

Out of three deaths on arrival today, two were from Kelantan. 

The oldest victim to succumb to the virus today was a 98-year-old man from Kuala Lumpur, while the youngest was a woman from Labuan, aged 34. – June 14, 2021.
