Record 912 Covid-19 patients in ICU, 84 deaths

MALAYSIA registered a record number of 912 Covid-19 patients in intensive care units (ICU) as of noon today, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The latest number of patients under critical care outnumbered yesterday’s figure by one case.

The number of ICU patients has been increasing steadily since May 5.

Although there was an increase in ICU cases, the number of people requiring respiratory support dropped from 462 yesterday to 458.

Besides this, the number of fatalities rose to 84 today after declining for three straight days.

While Malaysia recorded 6,849 new Covid-19 cases today, it also saw a record number of 7,749 people recovered and discharged today, taking the cumulative number of recoveries to 563,779.

This reduced the number of active cases in the country to 78,864.

Of the 84 fatalities today, eight were foreigners.

A total of sixteen victims who succumbed to the virus were dead on arrival, of which six were foreigners.

All states and federal territories, except Putrajaya, reported death cases today.

Selangor and Sarawak reported 19 and 12 fatalities respectively.

Other states reporting deaths were Negri Sembilan (9), Labuan (8), Johor and Kuala Lumpur (7 each), Pahang and Sabah (6 each), Terengganu (3), Malacca (2), and Kelantan, Perak, Penang, Perlis and Kedah (one each). – June 11, 2021.
