THE national immunisation programme has met the target of 150,000 daily vaccinations and aims next for 200,000 shots per day, said the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF).
CITF said it administered 151,309 jabs yesterday, exceeding the projections of vaccination coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
It said 105,722 of the recipients were taking the first dose of the vaccine and the rest, the second and final dose.
Taking to Twitter to share the news, Khairy said the next target was 200,000 people daily.
He said the government was expanding vaccination capacity in Klang Valley, which would further raise the figures.
“Daily injections for June 8 exceeded 150,000. Key now is to ensure we hit this consistently as we move towards 200,000 per day. Ongoing ramp up of capacity in Klang Valley will drive daily numbers,” he tweeted today.
Khairy had said last week that Malaysia will hit daily 150,000 vaccinations in June.
At the end of May, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said Malaysia aimed for a vaccination rate of 200,000 to 300,000 per day to achieve herd immunity by the end of the year.
As of yesterday, 3,790,121 doses of vaccine have been administered.
Nearly 1.2 million of the recipients have completed the full course of two doses.
Registration for inoculation stood at 12,774,132 yesterday. β June 9, 2021.
