New high of 902 Covid-19 patients in ICU

THE number of Covid-19 patients being treated in intensive care units (ICU) reached an all-time high of 902 today, breaching its previous record by 12 cases in just 24 hours, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Yesterday, 890 patients were warded in ICU. The number of cases has increased despite Malaysia reporting a drop in Covid-19 infections for the fifth straight day.

Those requiring respiratory support also rose to 447, the highest number since the onset of the pandemic.

Noor Hisham said 82 fatalities were reported as of noon today – a decline in the count for the third consecutive day – taking the Covid-19 death toll in the country to 3,460.

On a positive note, the country reported a record number of recoveries today, at 7,548, bringing its cumulative total to 534,357.

Of the deaths reported today, Noor Hisham said 23 were in Selangor, 11 in Negri Sembilan, eight in Kuala Lumpur, five in Kedah, four each in Perak, Kelantan and Sarawak, two in Labuan and one each in Sabah, Penang, Malacca and Terengganu.

He added that there were six dead-on-arrival cases. – June 7, 2021.
