5,271 new Covid-19 cases, lowest in 20 days

Health authorities report 5,271 new Covid-19 infections in the past 24 hours, a decline from 6,241 cases the previous day. – The Malaysian Insight pic, June 7, 2021.

COVID-19 cases in Malaysia declined for the fifth consecutive day today as the country reported 5,271 fresh cases in the past 24 hours.

This is also the first time in 20 days that the daily figure has dipped below the 6,000 mark – the last being on May 18 with 4,865 cases recorded.  

Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah tweeted that Selangor continues to report most the cases by state with 1,374 infections, followed by Sarawak with 703 cases and Negri Sembilan with 571 cases. 

Selangor also leads the overall case tally with 203,520 infections, followed by Sabah with 64,206 cases and Kuala Lumpur with 63,372 cases. 

Malaysia’s caseload is now at 622,086.

All other states in the country reported fresh cases today, Perlis being the lowest, reporting one infection.

As of yesterday, a total of 3,574,376 doses of vaccine had been administered, an increase of 81,183 compared to the previous day.

Of the recipients, 2,444,075 received their first dose while 1,130,301 received both doses. – June 7, 2021.
