KEPONG MP Lim Lip Eng will give up three months of his allowance to aid constituents affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said this move is to help the people of Kepong that are in dire need of assistance.

“I understand that a lot of individuals have been losing their jobs and businesses are severely affected, especially with the total lockdown in place,” he said in a statement.

On Monday, Prime  Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced that all ministers and deputy ministers will not take salaries for three months starting this June to help in the fight against the pandemic.

He said the salaries will be contributed to the Disaster Trust Fund to finance expenses related to Covid-19 pandemic.

Muhyiddin said the ministers and deputies will give up three months of their salaries to show their support in the fight against the pandemic, just like they did in the first movement-control order.

Lim said he will not allow his MP allowance to be cut and be put into any special account as done by the ministers and deputy ministers.

“I will keep my allowance so that I can personally allocate the allowance to underprivileged communities battling the outbreak in Kepong.”

He also urged residents in his constituency who are in dire need of help to contact him.

“To those in Kepong who are really in a hard place, do not hesitate to contact me.

“We will review every application we receive and we will prioritise those who are in dire need of help.

“Those eligible will get three months of financial help.”

He added that a Unicef report in November found that many low-income households were worse off than before the Covid-19 pandemic began, as seven in 10 households reported that the virus had affected their ability to cover basic living expenses. – June 4, 2021.
