POLICE have opened an investigation into an Instagram post of the mother of a popular celebrity who allegedly criticised Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar.

Brickfields district police chief Anuar Omar said the probe was launched after the celebrity’s mother, a 54-year-old woman, lodged a report at the Taman Tun Dr Ismail police station yesterday.

“Investigations found that a 32-year-old woman had admitted that she had mistakenly used the Instagram (account) of the celebrity’s mother to write the critical caption on the account’s Instastory,” he said in a statement.

Anuar said the case was filed under section 504 of the penal code, section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.

Yesterday, the Instagram account  in question featured images and TV3 news footage with a visual of the sultan of Johor in a post entitled “Sultan of Johor Proposes Full Targeted Lockdown”, along with the critical caption.

The celebrity’s mother said in her police report that one of her employees had misused her Instagram account. – Bernama, May 31, 2021.
