More than a million receive two doses of vaccine

A TOTAL of 1,014,342 individuals has received both Covid-19 vaccine doses under the National Immunisation Programme (NIP) as of May 28, said Dr Adham Baba.

In his latest tweet, the health minister said that 1,771,810 individuals have received their first dose, bringing the total number of vaccine recipients in the country to 2,786,152.

Among the states with the highest number of people receiving both doses of vaccines are Selangor at 138,063, followed by Sarawak with 96,450 individuals and Kuala Lumpur completing the top three with 94,397 individuals.

Adham said, as of yesterday, a total of 11,788,915, or 48,6%, had registered for the vaccination programme.

Selangor tops that chart too, with 3,159,392 people registering for the programme, followed by Johor with 1,441,910 registrations and Sarawak with 1,206,076 registrations.

According to the NIP, the first phase of the vaccination, from February to April, involved some 500,000 front liners, which included health workers.

The second phase is from April to August, involving 9.4 million senior citizens, aged 60 and above, as well as vulnerable groups with morbidity problems and people with disabilities.

The third phase, scheduled from May to February 2022, is for individuals aged 18 and above, targeting about 14 million people.

However, coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin said phase three might be delayed beyond its intended start date, citing lack of supply.

Yesterday, deputy health minister Noor Azmi Ghazali said that the ministry is expected to begin phase 3 in June. – May 29, 2021.
