MALAYSIA reported 6,493 new Covid-19 infections in the past 24 hours, breaching the 6,000 mark for the third day running, said Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The number of cases today will be the second highest reported in the country since the onset of the pandemic.
Selangor once again reported the most cases by state with 2,163 infections, bringing the state’s total to 163,747.
This would be the 29th straight day that Selangor is topping the states tally.
Coming behind Selangor is Kuala Lumpur with 641 cases, followed by Sarawak with 612 cases.
All states reported fresh cases today, bringing the total caseload in the country to 498,795, just 1,205 cases shy of the half-a-million mark.
Noor Hisham said of the new cases, two were imported while the rest were local transmissions.
He said the two import cases involved one Malaysian and one foreigner, while as for local transmissions, 6,038 involved Malaysians and the rest foreigners.
Noor Hisham said 4,508 people were discharged today, taking the total number of recoveries to 444,540.
The number of active cases in the country has increased to 52,106.
Of them, 643 are admitted to the intensive care unit and 363 require respiratory support.
A total of 50 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the fatalities toll to 2,149. – May 21, 2021.
