FRESH Covid-19 cases again exceeded 4,000 today, with Selangor leading the tally for the 25th straight day at 1,650 infections.
The country recorded a total of 4,446 new infections in the past 24 hours, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a tweet.
Selangor’s 25-day streak of having the most number of virus infections comes as Health Minister Dr Adham Baba warned of a full-scale lockdown for the country’s most densely populated state, if cases are not brought under control.
After Selangor, Sarawak reported the second most infections for the day with 433 cases, followed by Johor with 391.
Perlis and Labuan were the only two states not to have recorded any cases today.
The health director-general said that of the new cases reported today, only three involved imported cases (all Malaysians), while 4,443 were local transmissions.
He said that of the local transmissions, 4,230 involved Malaysians and 213 involved foreigners.
Noor Hisham said a total of 2,784 patients were discharged today, taking the cumulative recoveries to 429,103.
The number of active cases now stands at 43,506, where 522 were admitted in the intensive care unit and 273 of them required respiratory support.
Noor Hisham added that the country reported a record 45 deaths today. – May 17, 2021.
