3,807 new Covid-19 cases, 17 deaths

MALAYSIA reported 3,807 new Covid-19 cases today, taking the country’s cumulative total to 444,484, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.  

The director-general of health said there were only 17 deaths in the past 24 hours, after reporting more than 20 fatalities for three consecutive days.

He said Selangor once again contributed the bulk of the new infections, at 1,149. 

This would be the 18th straight day that the state is topping the daily chart of new Covid-19 cases. 

Noor Hisham said Sarawak took the second spot with 649 cases, followed by Kelantan with 329 infections.

Noor Hisham said 3,454 recoveries were recorded today, thus bringing the number of active cases in the country to 37,396.

Besides this, the number of admissions in intensive care units (ICU) increased from 416 cases yesterday to a new high of 434 cases today, while those requiring respiratory support also increased to 224.

Elaborating more on the fatalities, Noor Hisham said of the 17 victims, 15 were male and two were female, including a foreigner.

Four deaths were reported in Selangor, three each in Penang and Malacca, two each in Kuala Lumpur and Sarawak, and one each in Sabah, Kedah and Kelantan. – May 10, 2021.
