9 new Covid-19 clusters detected

A total of nine new Covid-19 clusters have been detected in the country in the past 24 hours. They are in Pahang, Johor, Selangor, Malacca, Kedah, Terengganu and Perak. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Nazir Sufari, May 3, 2021.

HEALTH authorities detected nine new Covid-19 clusters in the past 24 hours, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The Health Director-General said of the new clusters, three were linked to community transmissions, workplace (three), education sectors (two) and one in a detention centre.

Noor Hisham said two clusters each were traced in Pahang and Johor, while one each was traced in Selangor, Malacca, Kedah, Terengganu and Perak.

He said the Industry Mahkota 2 workplace cluster in Hulu Langat, Selangor, involving a construction site, recorded the most cases among clusters reported today, with 121 people testing positive for the virus.

The other two workplace clusters were in Jalan Jati Industry in Johor, in which 26 cases were traced among factory workers, and Tok Has in Terengganu, where 29 cases were reported among restaurant workers.

The three community transmission clusters are Lorong Galian in Kuantan, Pahang (13 cases), Jalan Dahlia Lima in Malacca Tengah, Malacca (11 cases) and Bunga Raya in Kuala Muda and Kulim, Kedah (10 cases).

Of the two education-related clusters, one involved a government school in Kuantan, Pahang, dubbed as Indera Mahkota Dua, where 16 positive Covid-19 cases were traced.

Jalan Bandar in Johor Baru, Johor, is the other education cluster where 18 cases were detected among the staff and students.

The final cluster detected was Jalan Meru Utama, a cluster linked to a detention centre in Perak, which reported 40 positive cases, the second highest today.

The cases here are spread over the districts of Kinta, Batang Padang, Kuala Kangsar, Larut, Matang and Selama in Perak.

The nine new additions bring the cluster tally to 1,689, where 389 are still active and 74 of them reporting new cases today.

Seven clusters ended today, taking the total infectious group’s conclusion to 1,291. – May 3, 2021.
