11 new clusters, 5 linked to community, 4 from education sector

ELEVEN new Covid-19 clusters were detected by the health authorities today including five from community transmissions, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. 

Besides that, the director-general of health said that four education related clusters and two workplace clusters were also detected today.

Sarawak was the state with most clusters (4), followed by Kedah (3), Selangor (2) and one each in Johor and Malacca. 

Elaborating on the clusters, Noor Hisham said the Sungai Tengah community cluster at Bau and Kuching district caused by a social event led to 23 people testing positive for Covid-19. 

The other community transmissions in Sarawak are Sungai Sebemban and Sebujok, which reported 21 and 15 cases respectively. 

The final two community transmissions are Jalan Sri Putri 12 in Johor, which reported 13 cases and Jalan Emas in Malacca with 10 cases.

Out of the four education clusters, three were detected in the state of Kedah whereby two were from government schools, which reported a total of 43 cases. 

The clusters involving government schools are Sains Bakam in Miri, Sarawak, with 19 cases and Kiara Jaya which links the Kedah and Kuala Lumpur states with 24 cases. 

The other two education clusters in Kedah are Jalan Junjong with 16 cases and Limau Karangan with seven cases. 

Finally, both the workplace clusters today were detected in Selangor with the Kasawari Sembilan cluster traced among factory workers reported the most cases today with 37 people testing positive for coronavirus and the Persiaran Raja cluster recorded at an administration office reported 13 cases. 

The number of clusters today brought the total infection groupings to 1,680, with 396 of them labelled active and 85 of them still reporting new cases. 

Clusters reporting most cases today are Saujana with 153 cases, followed by Sungai Duan (102 cases) and Sungai Ranan (33 cases).

A total of 10 clusters were brought to an end, taking the number of clusters to conclude to 1,284. – May 2, 2021.
