Dr Mahathir wrong to call DAP 'extreme', says Guan Eng

DR Mahathir Mohamad is wrong to label DAP an extremist party that catered for only one community, said Lim Guan Eng.

The DAP secretary-general said the record proved DAP is a multi-racial party that seeks to represent all Malaysians regardless of race and religion.

“DAP rejects the characterisation by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohmad of DAP as extremist as wrong, baseless and misguided,” the Bagan MP said in a statement today

Lim, who was finance minister in Dr Mahathir’s cabinet, said his party has served and helped people of all races and religions, whether they were pro-government or in the opposition.

“DAP has never discriminated against or taken any position that is inimical to the rights and interests of Malaysians whether Malay or non-Malays, Muslim or non-Muslim.

“DAP leaders have gone to prison for defending the rights of both Malays and non-Malays.”

He said Dr Mahathir had failed to see that DAP is inclusive with elected representatives from all ethnic groups including Malay and the Sabah and Sarawak locals.

He said DAP has consistently upheld the federal constitution unlike Perikatan Nasional and Barisan Nasional component parties which are racist or extremist in seeking to represent only one racial or religious group.

Dr Mahathir had yesterday remarked that he had sometimes found DAP to be extreme.

“I have worked with DAP and sometimes (DAP) is extreme but we can work with them,” he had said, adding that DAP should work for all races instead of just one.

He said this when asked to comment on possible cooperation between Umno and DAP after the next general election.

The former prime minister said if Umno could work with MCA, which at one time was extreme, it should have no problem working with DAP. – April 5, 2021.

  • I guess what Tun M means by extreme is that so long as you wish for meritocracy and equality and do not support affirmative actions based on race but based on need, then you are considered extreme.

    • Exactly. Tun does not understand what is good for all. He only knows how to consolidate his position by relying on the majority votes. The majority votes refer to those who were conned to vote for him.

  • If DAP is so extreme why partner with them in GE14? Everything Mahathir does is for his own selfish agenda.
