Opposition committee to end emergency no legal power, says Takiyuddin

THE committee set up by the opposition for ending the State of Emergency has no legal power to do so, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Takiyuddin Hassan.

He said only the independent special committee on emergency 2021, set up under Section 2 of the Emergency (Essential Powers) Ordinance 2021, had the power in accordance with legal provisions to advise Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah when the state of emergency can be lifted.
