Two remanded for six days in RM300,000 bribery case


Selangor MACC officers have been given until Monday to question two suspects about an alleged RM300,000 bribe offered during an investigation into Chinese nationals held at an Immigration detention centre. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, March 10, 2021.

TWO people, including a datuk seri, were remanded for six days to assist in the investigation into a RM300,000 bribery case in connection with the detention of 22 Chinese nationals at an Immigration detention centre.

Magistrate Fatina Amyra Abdul Jalil issued the remand order until Monday, following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

A female migrant worker agent, 41, suspected of acting as a middleman, was also remanded to assist in the investigation.

An MACC source said the woman was arrested at 1am today, while the 44-year-old man was arrested at about 8pm yesterday. Both suspects were detained at the Selangor MACC Office.

The source also said that the male suspect said he was able to help solve the case of 22 Chinese nationals who were detained over online gambling syndicate and scam.

The investigation is being conducted under Section 16 (a) (A) of the MACC Act 2009. – Bernama, March 10, 2021.
