3 million sign up for Covid-19 jabs

ALMOST three million people have signed up for Covid-19 vaccination as of 8am today, according to data from the special vaccine supply access guarantee committee (JKJAV).

A total of 2.99 million people have signed up for vaccination since the programme was rolled out on February 24.

Selangor tops the number of registrations at 991,181 followed by Johor with 335,537 individuals, Kuala Lumpur (292,983) and Sarawak (240,630).

Meanwhile, 127,608 people have received their first vaccine dose as of yesterday.

Sarawak, the fourth most populous state at 2.81 million, saw the highest number of vaccinations at 18,034.

This was followed by Pahang with 13,830.

Selangor, the most populous state at 6.57 million, came in third with 11,982 vaccinations.

Labuan registered the lowest number of vaccinations at 2,158. However, the federal territory has a population of more than 100,000, which is the second lowest in the country.

Putrajaya saw 2,290 vaccinations.

The government aims to inoculate 500,000 front-liners in the first phase one of the programme. 

High-risk groups and the public will be vaccinated in the second and third phases involving 9.4 million and 13.7 million people respectively.

Coordinating minister for the national Covid-19 immunisation programme Khairy Jamaluddin said previously that the government is aiming to vaccinate 150,000 people a day in phase three.

The government is targeting 26.6 million Malaysians or 80% of the population to create herd immunity to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Putrajaya has secured 66.7 million doses of vaccine.
