PARTI Keadilan Rakyat today apologised to Julau and Tebrau voters after their respective Members of Parliament left the party to throw their support behind Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

The duo – Larry Sng from Julau and Steven Choong from Tebrau – submitted their letter of support for Muhyiddin and have now become Perikatan Nasional-friendly independents.

“PKR seeks apology from voters in Julau and Tebrau over the defections of their MPs.

“The party grassroots in these two constituencies are urged to double their efforts to work for the people in solving issues and problems, and to be prepared to win back these seats in the coming general election,” said PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail in a statement.

He added that the party in its central leadership council meeting today also discussed plans on legal action against those who contested under the PKR seat in the last election and then betrayed their voters by defecting.

He also slammed the government for using the emergency as a cloak to remain in power by enticing MPs to change camps either with threats or offers.

“Even with the defection of these two MPs today, Muhyiddin must realise that he has lost the support of the majority of MPs.

“He should not try to maintain this weak government and should instead step down accordingly,” said Saifuddin.

He also said that the party has decided to sack both Sng and Choong with immediate effect.

Earlier today, Muhyiddin announced Sng and Choong’s decision to support PN on Facebook.

“Today I received statutory declarations from two opposition MPs who now support the PN government.

“With their support, this will strengthen the PN government’s efforts to fight the Covid-19 pandemic and restore the economy,” Muhyiddin said in a Facebook post.

Sng, meanwhile, said he had consulted several people before deciding to leave PKR, adding that he had been unable to serve Julau effectively with the lack of development funds.

“With this move today, I am confident that I will be able to deliver my election promises to my electorate,” he said. – February 28, 2021.
