LACK of funds needed to serve the people in Julau has forced its lawmaker Larry Sng to leave PKR to be a government friendly independent.
Taking the matter to Facebook, Sng said he has not been able to help his constituents who are suffering from the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and loss of jobs.
“In my constituency of Julau, the poorest in the country, people are suffering because of the economic impact of the pandemic, loss of jobs and income from low commodity prices.
“I won the 2018 election as an independent and now I declare myself as a government friendly independent,” Sng said.
Sng said he had consulted several people before deciding to leave PKR.
“There has been too much political instability over the past one year and this has damaged the country’s economy and the people’s wellbeing. I truly believe that the best way forward is to put politics aside for now, so that we can help stabilise and rebuild our beloved country together,” he added.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced Sng and Tebrau MP Steven Choong’s decision to support PN on Facebook.
“Today I received statutory declarations from two opposition MPs who now support the PN government.
“With their support, this will strengthen the PN government’s efforts to fight the Covid-19 pandemic and restore the economy,” Muhyiddin said in a Facebook post.
PKR central committee member, G. Manivannan confirmed that both MPs have quit the party.
In recent weeks, there has been speculation that a few PKR lawmakers would join PN.
Muhyiddin’s two-seat majority in Dewan Rakyat recently vanished after two Umno lawmakers withdrew their support for him.
The support thrown by Sng and Choong today would reinstate that simple majority for the prime minister. – February 28, 2021.
