THE Court of Appeal will hear on April 8 Rosmah Mansor’s suit to view lead prosecutor Gopal Sri Ram’s letter of appointment in her corruption trial after losing the challenge in the high court, her lawyer Akberdin Abdul Kader said.

The appeal came up for case management before deputy registrar Darmafikri Abu Adam on February 8.

On August 19 last year, Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan held that Rosmah, the wife of former prime minister Najib Razak, did not give any justification for Sri Ram to produce the letter.

Rosmah had applied that the letter be produced because she was challenging his appointment to lead the prosecution in her corruption trial, in which she is accused of demanding nearly RM200 million in bribes.

Rosmah is facing one count of soliciting RM188 million and two counts of receiving RM6.5 million in bribes from Jepak Holdings Sdn Bhd’s managing director, Saidi Abang Samsudin in connection with the solar energy project.

The prosecution accuses her of receiving the money through her former assistant Rizal Mansor, as a reward for helping Jepak Holdings secure the Hybrid Photovoltaic Solar System Integrated Project, as well as the maintenance and operation of diesel gen-sets for 369 Sarawak rural schools worth RM1.25 billion from the Ministry of Education through direct negotiation.

The acts were allegedly committed at Lygon Cafe, Sunway Putra Mall, Jalan Putra; Rosmah’s residence on Jalan Langgak Duta, Taman Duta and at Seri Perdana, Persiaran Seri Perdana, Precinct 10, Putrajaya, between January 2016 and September 2017.

The high court has fixed Thursday to announce whether Rosmah must enter her defence to the charges. – Bernama, February 15, 2021.
